Members of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC), Students’ Union, of the University of Ibadan (UI) recently embarked on a trip to the National Assembly, Abuja, to enrich their knowledge about legislative process.

No fewer than 45 members of the Council were led by their first female Speaker, Ifeoluwa Egunjobi, and other principal officers of the legislative arm.

This was to the third time the students’ lawmakers had visited the National Assembly after the Students’ Union was re-inaugurated during the 2010/2011 academic session by the present Vice-Chancellor, Professor Isaac Adewole.

At the National Assembly Complex, the students were received by Mr A.O. Alabi, the Security Officer in charge of Education/Excursion.

“I am glad to receive students from my alma-mater,” Mr Alabi said, urging the students to refrain from any action which might interrupt the proceedings in the chamber and to abide by any instructions at the gallery.

As soon as the Senate President, Senator David Mark, moved into the chamber, he read the opening prayer and having received the students, the programme commenced.

Other contributors at the event were Senator Adegbenga Kaka, representing Ogun East Senatorial District; Senator Chris Ngige and Senator James Solomon.

The students also visited lawmakers representing Oyo State at the National Assembly, after the plenary session.

Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, who is representing Oyo-South, expressed joy to receive students from the state he is representing, while Senator Hosea Agboola, who is representing Oyo-North Senatorial District, also received the students’ lawmakers with a smile on his face.

Honourable Bukola Ajaja, representing Ibadan North/East and Ibadan South/East Federal Consituency, said she was happy to see the students being led to the complex by a female leader.

On what informed the visit, Egunjobi said the essence of the visit was to enhance legislative standard in students’ unionism of the University of Ibadan, as part of catalyst of world-class institution.

One of the student leaders, Ariyo Ojedeji, described the trip as educative and informative.
